A New Day

As I arose I wondered

What will today be like?

Will I enjoy the sunshine,

Or will depression strike?

Will cheerful music from a bird

Kindle songs within my heart?

Will the laughter of a child

Make cares of life depart?

Will someone say “I love you.”

Or maybe just “I care?”

If I should go to heaven

Is someone waiting there

To give to me a welcome?

Will those left here despair?

Will every task be mundane,

And boring to my mind?

Will problems only frustrate?

Thus anger will I find.

Will friends forgive my weakness?

Will gossip’s pointed spike

Pierce heart and soul and senses?

Oh! What will today be like?
